Brown Patches
Patches of brown dying grass, although very common, undoubtedly spoil the appearance of a lawn. However, it is usually possible to trace and remedy the cause enabling you to restore green and healthy grass.
Dog Urine
The most common cause of brown patches in turf is the damage caused by female dog urine, which leaves circular patches with bright green margins on lawns to which dogs have access. Watering the affected areas immediately can help to reduce the problem, but there is no specific remedy with the exception of keeping the dogs off the area.
Lawn Diseases
Lawn diseases can cause dead or discoloured patches that spread rapidly. They mainly strike in moist weather, particularly in late summer, autumn or winter. See our individual advice pages to find out further information.
